W26BHY3-6 Introduction to the Hydraulic Press
(Half-day workshop, Friday, March 6) 12-3PM. Limit 4.
In this workshop, students will learn the basic operations of the electric hydraulic press. Techniques taught in this class will include how to use a pancake die, a silhouette die, and an impression die. Students who complete the class will end the day with components that can be used as elements in their jewelry designs. A materials kit will be provided.

W26IHY3-13 Hydraulic Press Cuff Bracelet
(One-day workshop, Friday, March 13) 10AM-4PM. Limit 4.
Prerequisite: Introduction to the Hydraulic Press or permission from the instructor.
In this workshop, students will use the electric hydraulic press to make anticlastic and synclastic cuff bracelets.

Inlay Bracelet

W26GCJ1-9 Inlay Bracelet
(Three-hour workshop, Friday January 9) 9AM-Noon.
Limit 10.

In this workshop, you’ll dive into the art of stone inlay to create a geometric cuff bracelet. We’ll start by sawing, shaping, and texturing the sterling silver to form the foundation of the cuff.
The accompanying lapidary sessions (W26III1-9 below) are required to complete a finished cuff.

Inlay Bracelet-Lapidary

W26III1-9 Inlay Bracelet – Lapidary Workup
(Two Session workshop, Friday January 9 (1-4PM) & Saturday January 10 (9AM – Noon)).
Limit 10.
Note: This class must include the Inlay Bracelet construction class above (W26GCJ1-9).
In the first session, we will fit and glue your inlay stones in place. In the second session (after the glue has set up), we will cut and polish the inlay stones to complete the inlay cuff.

W26GCJ1-10 Get In The Groove
(Three-hour workshop, Saturday January 10) 1-4PM.
Limit 10. Skill level – Beginner.

Create a setting fit for royalty. This introductory stone setting class will add another dimension to your glasswork or any stone. Step By Step Ring

W26GSI1-11 Step by Step Ring
(Six-hour workshop, Sunday January 11) 10AM-4PM.
Limit 10.
Create this stunning sterling silver ring with a bold bezel setting in this ring workshop. Designed for those with experience in basic metalworking, this class focuses on stone setting a faceted gemstone. Participants will learn to shape, solder, and refine the bezel setting, ensuring a professional finish. You’ll also explore techniques for achieving smooth, polished details and a flawless fit for the gemstone, culminating in a striking, wearable piece of art.

Over The Top Pendant

(Three-hour workshop, Monday January 12) 5-8PM.
Limit 10.
Not all stones are conducive to bezel setting, this “Over the top” setting will teach you a creative way of setting stones that are not your typical cabochon. Created to engage the eye, this pendant is both dynamic and kinetic.

chasing and repoussé

W26BCR1-3 Introduction to Chasing and Repoussé Weekend Workshop
(Two-day workshop, Saturday & Sunday, January 3 & 4) 10AM-4PM. Limit 6.

This workshop will introduce concepts, tools, and methods of chasing and repoussé (C&R). Consider a flat piece of metal: chasing yields a design on its side to be viewed, while repoussé pushes out the material from the back to create visual depth in the finished piece. All working of the piece is done using steel punches and a hammer to move the metal to create the finished piece. Students will complete two pieces in the class using 2”x2” metal pieces – one with copper and one with sterling silver. A pitch bowl and a set of basic C&R tools will be provided.

Rubber Mold Making

W26BMV1-24 Vulcanizing Rubber Molds and Injection Wax
(
Two-day workshop, Saturday & Sunday, January 24 & 25) 9AM-4PM. Limit 8.
Beginner/Intermediate level.
If you want to preserve a special piece of jewelry, you can easily make a duplicate. Creating a rubber mold is a great way to make multiple copies. Using simple supplies and following basic instructions, you can be a rubber mold-making expert in no time. Then you can inject hot wax into a mold and remove a perfect wax replica, ready to cast into metal. This class will focus on vulcanizing rubber molds and injecting wax under pressure in the molds to create a disposable wax model for casting.

Prerequisite: At least one TLS Faceting Session. Discussion, demonstration, and hands-on practice on topics including rough evaluation, rough orientation, preforming, dopping, and transfer.
This course is designed to help new faceters improve your independent skills and techniques.

Learn how to make spheres out of lapidary material by hand.

Learn to operate a mast-type faceting machine and some basic faceting principles. Students will cut and polish a one-sided Rose cut heart-shaped gemstone.

Learn the basic operations and how to use Gem Cut Studio software (Rej Poirer; www.gemcutstudio.com).
We will use Gem Cut Studio to import and modify existing faceting designs.

REFUND POLICY: Some classes and many open shop sessions fill up rapidly and have extensive wait lists. If you must drop out of a class or open shop session, please do so as early as possible so others may be given the opportunity to enroll.  Your courtesy in doing so will be appreciated. Also, if you believe you are ill, or becoming ill, we respectfully ask that you decline to attend. If you wish to withdraw from a class, workshop, or open shop session, you must notify the Registrar and instructor by email. When refunds are requested, we retain 10% of tuition as a processing fee. Tuition will be refunded 100% (minus the processing fee) if you withdraw before 7 days prior to the start date of the course, workshop, or open shop session. If you withdraw 7 to 3 days prior to the start date, tuition will be refunded 80% (minus the processing fee).  There will be no refunds for withdrawals within 2 days of the start of the class, workshop, or open shop session.  In the event of emergencies or other extenuating circumstances, TLS will consider making exceptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis.  If such an event or circumstance occurs, please email the registrar with your inquiry and it will be reviewed as soon as possible.

WAIT LISTS: If you wish to be placed on a wait list for a class that is currently full, please send your request by email to our Registrar. Include your name, address, email address, and phone number in the message.

MEMBERSHIP: Adult membership requires completion of Beginning Cabochon or Faceting classes, participation in two TLS monthly meetings and willingness to participate as a volunteer in TLS activities. Non-members have priority in beginning cabochon classes.
