TLS offers classes to adults interested in pursuing lapidary and jewelry arts. No previous experience is needed unless a prerequisite is noted.

Those registering must be at least 18 years of age. Students between the ages of 12 and 18 can take classes by becoming junior members of TLS. To inquire about that possibility, send us a message on our Contact Form.
Adult Membership requires completion of Beginning Cabochon or Faceting classes, participation in two TLS monthly meetings and willingness to participate as a volunteer in TLS activities. Non-members have priority in beginning cabochon classes.
To register online, browse through the offerings below and make a note of the course IDs of the ones for which you wish to register. Then click the REGISTER button which will take you to our registration system. Members must enter their email address from the current TLS membership directory. Members will then see member prices and all events open to members. Non-members will see non-member prices and all events open to non-members.
To register by US Mail, click HERE for a registration form. Full tuition must accompany the registration form in order to reserve a spot in the class.
Wait Lists: If you wish to be placed on a wait list for a class that is currently full, please send your request by email to our Registrar. Include your name, address, email address, and phone number in the message.

Su25BGF7-1 Special Project – Fused Glass Picture Frame
(Two evenings, July 1 & July 8) 5:00-9:00PM. Limit 6.
For both beginners and experienced students.
Make a beautiful glass picture frame for a treasured photo! Design decorative elements of your own choosing for your frame using the Freeze and Fuse technique and also prepare extra elements for future projects.

Open to new and experienced students. New students will learn to facet cutting glass in one of the TLS Beginner patterns. Experienced students will work on special topics tbd with instructors.

Su25BCB7-10 Beginning/Intermediate Cabochons
(8 weeks beginning July 10) 7:00-9:30PM. Limit 7.
Learn how to cut and polish rounded gemstone shapes. Open to new students and those honing their skills in cutting and polishing cabochons. Non-members have priority. Members should send an email to our Registrar (registrar@lapidary.org) to request placement on a wait list and, if possible, will be enrolled one week before the class is to begin in the order requests are received. If the member is successfully enrolled, an invoice will be sent.

Su25GCL7-17A Rustic Cholla Pendant
(3 hr workshop, Thursday, July 17) 9AM-Noon. Max 10.
This fine silver unisex pendant incorporates the organic shapes found in cholla cactus. Leave the pendant as is or decorate it with fireable stones or delicate pearls.

Su25GCL7-17B Stepping Stone Pendant
(3 hr workshop, Thursday, July 17) 1PM-4 PM. Max 10.
This sleek, modern pendant is made from a real river stone. Students can choose between many natural shapes, then form their pendant around the stone. When the pendant is complete, the stone is removed before firing. The pendant can be polished to a satin finish or a high shine.

(3 hr workshop, Thursday, July 17) 6PM-9PM. Max 10.
In this class, students will make a botanical themed pendant of their own design out of fine silver metal clay. Tiny leaves, berries, and vines will be made by hand, or with the help of commercial molds. It is easier than it looks! The pendant can be adorned with either pearls or colorful fireable gems.

(4 hr workshop, Friday, July 18) 9AM-1PM. Max 8.
Learn to incorporate beautiful transparent enamel into your work. Each student will design their own pair of textured earrings, then learn to apply enamel in layers for a shaded, dimensional effect. Choose from a large variety of shapes, textures, and colors.

Su25GSI7-25A Swinging Earrings – Pendant
(4 hr workshop, Friday, July 25) 10AM-4PM. Max 10.
Skill Level – Intermediate.
In this class we will have fun creating a pair of earrings or pendant. Learn to create a bezel setting for semi-precious cabochons. Students should have a working knowledge of silver soldering.

(3 ½ hr workshop, Friday, July 25) 5:30PM-9:30PM. Max 10.
Skill Level – Confident beginner.
Learn concepts of silver soldering while creating a fun and stylish bracelet that combines both copper and silver. You will have the opportunity to personalize your piece by using the rolling mill to apply a texture of your choice – adding depth and interest to your design. Perfect for beginners looking to expand their jewelry making skills, this class will leave you with a beautiful, handcrafted bracelet and a solid foundation in silver soldering techniques.

Su25GSI7-26A Introduction to Bezel Setting – Ring
(6 hr workshop, Saturday, July 26) 9AM-4PM. Max 10.
Skill Level – Beginner with basic soldering knowledge.
Have you been collecting rocks? Is it time to bring them out of the box to show them off? Take this class to learn how to put some glam into your bling. In this introductory bezel setting class, you’ll learn to create a custom ring from start to finish. Using sterling silver, you’ll shape, solder, and form a ring band, then craft a bezel to securely set a cabochon stone. Along the way, you’ll gain hands-on experience with essential metalsmithing techniques like sawing, filing, soldering, and stone setting – perfect for beginning stone setter to turn their favorite stones into wearable art.

(3 hr workshop, Saturday, July 26) 6PM-9PM. Max 10.
Skill Level – Intermediate (soldering knowledge required).
Create a stunning Baroque pearl ring using three setting techniques. In this class, you’ll learn to combine bezel, prong, and tube setting to beautifully showcase a Baroque pearl. This project will enhance your jewelry-making repertoire and leave you with a gorgeous piece to treasure.

(4 hr workshop, Sunday, July 27) 10AM-2PM. Max 10.
Skill Level – Intermediate.
In this jewelry-making class project, students will create a kinetic pendant that combines movement and modern design. This class emphasizes both design and engineering elements, teaching students how to integrate kinetic movement into their jewelry for a dynamic and eye-catching centerpiece.

Weekend Workshops
Su25IBB7-12 Intermediate Glass Bead-Making
(Two-day workshop, Saturday & Sunday, July 12 & 13) 9AM-5PM. Limit 9.
Prerequisite: One TLS glass bead making workshop.
Learn to make glass components with soft glass (104 COE). We’ll be demonstrating and practicing more advanced projects like simple flowers, reactive glass, glass manipulation with tools and gravity, amongst others. Closer to class we will survey the attendees to come up with a final class agenda. All supplies will be provided, but if you have a favorite color glass or tools, please feel free to bring them along.

Su25BFT7-13 Introduction to Faceting – Rose Cut Gemstone Workshop
(One-day workshop, Sunday, July 13) 9AM-5PM. Limit 6.
Learn to operate a mast-type faceting machine and some basic faceting principles. Students will cut and polish a one-sided Rose cut gemstone.
Instructors: Christina Groff and Steve Hansen.

For new or continuing students. Learn to cut flat faceted stones with glass or work on special projects.

Su25BHY7-26 Introduction to the Hydraulic Press
(Saturday, July 26) 12-3PM. Limit 4.
In this workshop, students will learn the basic operations of the electric hydraulic press. Techniques taught in this class will include how to use a pancake die, a silhouette die, and an impression die. Students who complete the class will end the day with components that can be used as elements in their jewelry designs. A materials kit will be provided. Instructor: Stacey Segal.
Tuition: Non-Members $55/Members $30. Materials fee (payable to the instructor) of $15.
Su25BVF8-3 Gem Cut Studio Workshop
(Two session workshop, Sunday, August 3 & Sunday, August 24) 1PM-3:30PM. Minimum 3.
ZOOM WORKSHOP. In the first session, we will have a tutorial on how to use Gem Cut Studio software (Rej Poirer; www.gemcutstudio.com). We will use Gem Cut Studio to import and modify existing faceting designs. In the second session, we will discuss design elements of gemstones, generate faceting designs from a sketch, and look at the steps required to generate new faceting designs.

Learn how to make spheres out of lapidary material by hand.
Instructor: John Chickadel.
Tuition: $160. The cost of a preform will likely range between $40 and $60.

(One-day workshop, Saturday, August 23) 10AM-4PM. Limit 4.
Prerequisite: Introduction to the Hydraulic Press or permission from the instructor. In this workshop, students will use the electric hydraulic press to make anticlastic and synclastic cuff bracelets.

REFUND POLICY
Some classes and many open shop sessions fill up rapidly and have extensive wait lists. If you must drop out of a class or open shop session, please do so as early as possible so others may be given the opportunity to enroll. Your courtesy in doing so will be appreciated. Also, if you believe you are ill, or becoming ill, we respectfully ask that you decline to attend. If you wish to withdraw from a class, workshop, or open shop session, you must notify the Registrar and instructor by email. When refunds are requested, we retain 10% of tuition as a processing fee. Tuition will be refunded 100% (minus the processing fee) if you withdraw before 7 days prior to the start date of the course, workshop, or open shop session. If you withdraw 7 to 3 days prior to the start date, tuition will be refunded 80% (minus the processing fee). There will be no refunds for withdrawals within 2 days of the start of the class, workshop, or open shop session. In the event of emergencies or other extenuating circumstances, TLS will consider making exceptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis. If such an event or circumstance occurs, please email the registrar with your inquiry and it will be reviewed as soon as possible.
