S26ACB4-6 Advanced Cabochons

(10 weeks beginning April 6) 7:30-9:30PM. Limit 10.
Learn how to make a wax model that will be cast into a piece of sterling silver jewelry. Open to new and experienced students. Students should have some ideas of what they want to make and bring pictures. The first night we will discuss duplicating and scaling from pictures.

S26GBB6-27 Beadmaking – Oldies but Goodies: (Two-day workshop, Saturday & Sunday, June 27 & 28) 9AM-5PM. Limit 9, Minimum 7.
Prerequisite: Some glass bead making experience.
Join a class of adventuresome bead makers to explore, experiment, and apply glass bead techniques that have their roots in the earliest years of the American bead making movement. Several retired beadmakers have even provided insider info and tips for reviving their techniques! Together we will learn about beadmakers from the past, their style and technique, and apply that knowledge to developing new creative applications in the flameworking studio. Jeri welcomes your input on areas of concern/interest. Students are invited to bring photos, books or websites that raise questions about particular soft glass styles and techniques.

S26GBB6-29 Borosilicate Chain Making
(One-day workshop, Monday, June 29) 9AM-5PM. Limit 9, Minimum 6.
Prerequisite: Some glass flameworking experience.
Are you curious about how to create boro chain or want to learn new chain links? Then this class is for you! In this class you will use a dual fuel torch, clear glass and very basic tools to make 4mm and 5mm boro chain links. Those with some chain making experience will pick up new tips and techniques. Links are great for earrings, to combine with metal chain or just to hang on to and admire! We won’t have time for every link style, but class will include a demo portion that reviews more advanced skills for future reference. Bring your questions and enthusiasm, chain making isn’t hard (and symmetry takes practice!). Class includes a take home “cheat sheet” and list of resources.

Weekend Workshops
S26BSR4-4 Scrap Silver Reclaim Workshop
(Half-day workshop, Saturday, April 4) Noon-5pm. Limit 4.
Turn your silver scraps into useable silver. Students will learn to clean and melt their scrap silver and pour into ingot molds. Then by using the rolling mill and draw plates they will form it into useable sheet or wire.

S26GSI4-11 Milagros Cuff
(Two-day workshop, Saturday & Sunday, April 11 & 12) 10AM-4PM. Minimum 7, maximum 10.
In Spanish, the word Milagro means miracle or surprise. They are small images, usually made of metal, that are traditionally used for religious, healing purposes in mainly Spanish speaking countries. Using these images, students will design and fabricate their own Milagro cuff bracelets with sheet brass, Silver wire, and Silver scrap. This project is a great way to enhance skills in sawing, forming, soldering, texturing, and finishing techniques. This course is suitable for students with a solid knowledge of soldering. By the end of the class, students will complete a series of Milagros and gain a deeper understanding of how metalsmithing can be used to tell stories and honor tradition through handmade objects.

S26GCL4-18 Fine Silver Metal Clay Seashell Pendant
(One-day workshop, Saturday, April 18) 9:30AM-4:30PM. Minimum 6, maximum 8.
In this workshop, students will use molds created from real seashells to create a pendant and/or earrings. They can choose to add a 1/2 drilled freshwater pearl accent to their pendant, and smaller sea life embellishments if they choose. All firing and finishing will be completed in class, students will leave with a finished piece of jewelry ready to wear! Guest Instructor: Monique Perry (http:www.moniquesartjewelry.com).

S26BJP4-19 Jewelry Photography
(Half-day workshop, Sunday, April 19) 1-4PM. Limit 10.
In this class, students will learn how to photograph cabochons, gems, jewelry, and other lapidary work for personal and professional purposes. We will experiment with both outdoor photography and utilizing a light box indoors.
Instructors: Jonathan Kam and Vincent DiAngelus.

S26BHY4-25 Introduction to the Hydraulic Press
(Half-day workshop, Saturday, April 25) 12-3PM. Limit 4.
In this workshop, students will learn the basic operations of the electric hydraulic press. Techniques taught in this class will include how to use a pancake die, a silhouette die, and an impression die. Students who complete the class will end the day with components that can be used as elements in their jewelry designs. A materials kit will be provided.

S26ITW5-2 Intermediate Flamework
(Two-day workshop, Saturday & Sunday, May 2 & 3) 9AM-5PM. Limit 6.
This class is designed to enhance your beadwork skills. We’ll spend time discussing, demonstrating, and creating components that you can use later at the torch. Have you ever found yourself halfway through a bead and wished you had a decorative element ready? Let’s dedicate some time to encasing dicro, creating twists, pulling canes, and more. We’ll also make our own Murine canes and demonstrate that it’s not as challenging as it seems. As the class date approaches, we’ll be flexible and accommodate any special requests you may have. We will be using soft glass which is available at the center but feel free to bring your favorite glass and tool.

S26BFT5-3 Introduction to Faceting – Rose Cut Gemstone Workshop
One-day workshop, Sunday, May 3) 9AM-5PM. Limit 6.
Learn to operate a mast-type faceting machine and some basic faceting principles. Students will cut and polish a one-sided Rose cut gemstone.

S26BCA5-9 Intro to Gemstone Carving
(One-day workshop, Saturday, May 9) 10AM-4PM. Minimum 5, Maximum 10.
We’re excited to welcome you to our second jade carving workshop, a special session inspired by the Year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac. In this hands-on class, participants will learn traditional carving techniques while creating their own jade horse carving, a symbol of strength, vitality, and forward movement. If you’ve taken our workshop before, you’re welcome to bring and reuse your original carving kit. If not—or if you’d like a fresh set—carving kits will be available for purchase, and jade stones are included in the workshop tuition. Whether you’re returning to refine your skills or joining us for the first time, this workshop is designed to be relaxed, creative, and rewarding for all experience levels.

S26BGI5-30 Gem ID
(One-day workshop, Saturday May 30) 10AM-3PM. Limit 8. Beginner/Intermediate Level. In this workshop, students will be given a brief introduction to geologic processes that form our favorite faceted gemstones, followed by a discussion of mineral physical and optical properties that help us identify gemstones, and finally we will have a hands-on session using the most common diagnostic instruments to try to solve the mystery of the unknown gem. Students are encouraged to bring a faceted stone of their choice to identify.

S26BVM5-31 Rustic Copper Bangle Infused with Silver
Half-day workshop, Sunday, May 31) 1-4PM. Limit 10.
Beginner friendly project. Texture a copper bangle, decorate with copper wire, and infuse with your silver scraps to make a one-of-a kind bracelet.

S26BMM6-6 Marble Making
(Two-day workshop, Saturday & Sunday, June 6 & 7) 9AM-5PM. Limit 6.
For beginners and those with some marble-making experience. Learn to make perfect spheres at the torch out of clear and colored borosilicate glass.
Instructors: Tami O’Connell and Lisa Laffend.

S26GEP6-13 Filigree Plique-à-Jour Enameling:
(Four-day workshop, Saturday & Sunday, June 13 &14 and Saturday & Sunday, June 20 &21) 10AM-5PM. Minimum 6, maximum 8.
Prerequisite: This is an advanced class. Student should have experience soldering and enameling. Note: This workshop will be presented over two consecutive weekends. In the first session you will learn to construct a filigree super-structure. The Plique-a-Jour technique to enamel these structures will be presented in the second session on the following weekend.
Filigree Structure Construction: Sat. & Sun., June 13 & 14. Learn to solder wire over a solid form to create the open cell filigree structure.

Filigree Structure Enameling: Sat. & Sun., June 20 & 21. Learn to apply enamel to open cells of a shaped structure.

REFUND POLICY: Some classes and many open shop sessions fill up rapidly and have extensive wait lists. If you must drop out of a class or open shop session, please do so as early as possible so others may be given the opportunity to enroll. Your courtesy in doing so will be appreciated. Also, if you believe you are ill, or becoming ill, we respectfully ask that you decline to attend. If you wish to withdraw from a class, workshop, or open shop session, you must notify the Registrar and instructor by email. When refunds are requested, we retain 10% of tuition as a processing fee. Tuition will be refunded 100% (minus the processing fee) if you withdraw before 7 days prior to the start date of the course, workshop, or open shop session. If you withdraw 7 to 3 days prior to the start date, tuition will be refunded 80% (minus the processing fee). There will be no refunds for withdrawals within 2 days of the start of the class, workshop, or open shop session. In the event of emergencies or other extenuating circumstances, TLS will consider making exceptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis. If such an event or circumstance occurs, please email the registrar with your inquiry and it will be reviewed as soon as possible.
WAIT LISTS: If you wish to be placed on a wait list for a class that is currently full, please send your request by email to our Registrar. Include your name, address, email address, and phone number in the message.

MEMBERSHIP: Adult membership requires completion of Beginning Cabochon or Faceting classes, participation in two TLS monthly meetings and willingness to participate as a volunteer in TLS activities. Non-members have priority in beginning cabochon classes.
