The Courses for Monday

Beginners enamels

Su26BEN7-13 Beginner Enameling:
(6 weeks beginning July 13) 1-4PM.

Learn the basics of enameling and the use of decals.

Faceting example

Students will learn to facet by cutting glass in one of the TLS Beginner patterns.

Su26BCB7-9 Beginning/Intermediate Cabochons:
(8 weeks beginning July 9) 7:00-9:30PM.
Limit 7.

Learn how to cut and polish rounded gemstone shapes. Open to new students and those honing their skills in cutting and polishing cabochons.

Non-members have priority. Members should send an email to our Registrar to request placement on a wait list and, if possible, will be enrolled one week before the class is to begin in the order requests are received. If the member is successfully enrolled, an invoice will be sent.

Weekday Workshops

Fused glass molds
Su26BGF8-3, Su26BGF8-11, and Su26BGF8-19 Special Project – Fused Glass Molds:
(Half-day workshops August 3, 11, and 19) 5PM-8PM.
Limit 6.

For both beginners and experienced students. With a huge array of casting molds available for your use, attend one, two, or all three sessions (separate registration required for each session) to cast frit and scraps into beautiful glass creations. The instructors will share their personal mold collections with you, and options include flowers, hearts, animals, sea creatures, insects, and pendant molds.

Thursday July 30 & Monday August 3

Shards pendant

Su26GCL7-30A Shards for Luck:
(Half-day workshop, Thursday, July 30) 9AM-Noon.
Limit 10.

In this class we celebrate the German saying, “Shards bring luck”! Decorate a porcelain shard of your choice however you wish: use fine silver overlay paste to accent the design or create your own. I will show you how to surround the shard with a beautiful, twisted border, as well as how to design a secure bail for the pendant. Finally, use silicone molds to create pretty decorative accents for your piece. The pieces will be fired overnight for you to collect the next day.

Woodland pendant

Su26GCL7-30 Woodland Pendant:
(Half-day workshop, Thursday, July 30) 1PM-5PM.
Limit 10.

This lovely pendant features a rose-cut garnet as well as woodland-inspired embellishments. The pendant hangs from a bail in the shape of a branch, which swings from a decorative loop. Optional patina brings out the depth and highlights the many details of your piece.  The pieces will be fired overnight for you to collect the next day.

(Half-day workshop, Monday, August 3) 9AM-Noon.

This lovely pendant features a frame (your choice of shape) filled with molded leaves and flowers, all created in fine silver metal clay. A sparkling, fireable stone adds a colorful accent, and an optional dark patina helps to bring out the intricate details.

Inlay Pendant

Su26GCJ7-31 Get in the Groove – Pendant:
(Half-day workshop, Friday, July 31) 9AM-Noon.
Limit 10. Skill Level – Beginner with basic soldering knowledge.

In this workshop, you’ll dive into the art of stone inlay to create a geometric pendant. We’ll start by sawing, shaping, and soldering the sterling silver to form the pendant foundation. Students should have a working knowledge of silver soldering. The accompanying lapidary sessions are required to complete a finished pendant.

Su26III7-31 Inlay Pendant – Lapidary Workup:
(Two Session workshop, Friday July 31 & Saturday August 1) 1-4PM.

Those registering for this class must also register for Get in the Groove – Pendant. In the first session, we will fit and glue your inlay stones in place. In the second session (after the glue has set up), we will cut and polish the inlay stones to complete the inlay pendant.

Bridging The Gap

(Half-day workshop, Friday July 31) 1-4PM.

Skill Level – Confident Beginner.

With the rising price of silver, we have needed to bridge the gap between our design endeavors and the cost of materials. This ring design was created to suit any budget, you may choose any combination of materials to suit your budget; whether it is copper with silver, silver with silver or even silver with gold, it will all look great. Copper and silver will be provided, however, if you wish to upgrade, please reach out to the instructor directly.

Radiant Enamels

(Half-day workshop, Saturday, August 1) 9AM-Noon. Limit 10. Skill Level – Beginner. 

Set your enameling apart with a touch of radiance. In this class you will set CZ’s (colors will vary) to torch fired enamel to create interest and shimmer. Students will have the option to make earrings or pendants.

Create your own stunning “Skyline Earrings” in a beginner-friendly workshop! No experience is needed to master the art of working with sterling silver and synthetic opal inlay. I will show you all the materials, tools, and guidance to help you shape, set, and polish a professional-quality pair to take home.

Silver Accents
Su26GEN8-2 Silver Accents:
(Half-day workshop, Sunday, August 2) 1-4PM. Limit 10. Skill Level – Beginner. 

Torch fired enamels are a great way to add color to your metal work. Silver foil will elevate those colors to another dimension. Through a process of firing layers of glass enamel, we will add silver foil for interest and glimmer. Students will have the opportunity to not only customize their color combinations, but also the shape of each piece.

Prong set cabochons

Su26BSI7-12 Prong Set Cabochons:
(
One-day workshop, Sunday, July 12) 10AM-4PM. Limit 5. Skill Level – Beginner with some soldering and metalsmithing experience.

Learn to prong set your unusual-shaped cabochons, or druzy crystals, or choose to prong set your more traditionally-shaped cabochons or rose cuts in a setting of your design.

Su26BHY7-18 Introduction to the Hydraulic Press:
(Half-day workshop, Saturday, July 18) 12-3PM.
Limit 4.

In this workshop, students will learn the basic operations of the electric hydraulic press. Techniques taught in this class will include how to use a pancake die, a silhouette die, and an impression die. Students who complete the class will end the day with components that can be used as elements in their jewelry designs. A materials kit will be provided.

IntroFantasyFaceting

Su26AFT7-26 Introduction to Fantasy Faceting Workshop:
(One-day workshop, Sunday, July 26) 9AM-5PM. Limit 4.
Prerequisite
: Permission from Instructor. This is an advanced workshop for experienced faceting students.

Students will learn to operate an Ultra Tec Fantasy Faceting machine and cut concave faceted stones. Projects will be reviewed and agreed upon in advance of the workshop. Students are required to bring dopped/preformed faceted stones to the workshop and to be able to finish the projects by hand and flat faceting outside of class. Reflection modeling in GCS will also be reviewed.

Learn how to make spheres out of lapidary material by hand.

Rose Cut Faceting

Learn to operate a mast-type faceting machine and some basic faceting principles. Students will cut and polish a one-sided Rose cut gemstone.

REFUND POLICY: Some classes and many open shop sessions fill up rapidly and have extensive wait lists. If you must drop out of a class or open shop session, please do so as early as possible so others may be given the opportunity to enroll.  Your courtesy in doing so will be appreciated. Also, if you believe you are ill, or becoming ill, we respectfully ask that you decline to attend. If you wish to withdraw from a class, workshop, or open shop session, you must notify the Registrar and instructor by email. When refunds are requested, we retain 10% of tuition as a processing fee. Tuition will be refunded 100% (minus the processing fee) if you withdraw before 7 days prior to the start date of the course, workshop, or open shop session. If you withdraw 7 to 3 days prior to the start date, tuition will be refunded 80% (minus the processing fee).  There will be no refunds for withdrawals within 2 days of the start of the class, workshop, or open shop session.  In the event of emergencies or other extenuating circumstances, TLS will consider making exceptions to this policy on a case-by-case basis.  If such an event or circumstance occurs, please email the registrar with your inquiry and it will be reviewed as soon as possible.

WAIT LISTS: If you wish to be placed on a wait list for a class that is currently full, please send your request by email to our Registrar. Include your name, address, email address, and phone number in the message.

MEMBERSHIP: Adult membership requires completion of Beginning Cabochon or Faceting classes, participation in two TLS monthly meetings and willingness to participate as a volunteer in TLS activities. Non-members have priority in beginning cabochon classes.
